RADical Hope and Wesleyan University Mark Fifth Year of Partnership Supporting First-Year Student-Athletes

New York, NY — October 3, 2025RADical Hope, a nonprofit committed to improving the lives and futures of young adults by strengthening connections and building resilience, is proud to launch its fifth year partnering with Wesleyan University to bring RADical Health to incoming student-athletes.

RADical Health was first introduced at Wesleyan in 2020 as the primary initiative of Take Flight, a skill-based wellness experience that builds connections and community among Wesleyan first-year student-athletes. Through engaging with peers and resources, students develop skills that help them navigate the transition to college while also building community. Over the past five years, Take Flight has become a cornerstone of the Wesleyan student-athlete experience, providing a supportive foundation for balancing the demands of academics, athletics and personal well-being.

“Wesleyan Athletics is defined by a culture of caring and there is no organization more committed to caring for young people than RADical Hope,”  shared Scott Bushey, Wesleyan’s Senior Assistant Athletic Director. “RADical Health, integrated at Wesleyan through our Take Flight program, has made a profound impact on countless Wesleyan student athletes, nearly 1,000 to date. The skills learned and connections made have helped our student athletes thrive as students, athletes, and most importantly, people. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with RADical Hope and continue caring for our young people in every way possible.”

That sense of impact is echoed by the students themselves. Beyond developing essential skills, many highlight how the program fosters connection across teams and creates a broader sense of community. “Take Flight’s curriculum is great for teaching skills to succeed in college and manage new demands on time,” added Akiva Lind, a student on the wrestling team. “But the most valuable part of the program is building relationships with student-athletes on other teams. Take Flight bridges that gap by facilitating friendships in a safe environment.”

For many, Take Flight has had a lasting impact. Zach Feldman, now a junior on the men’s soccer team, shared: “The most important aspect of the program I took away was the significance of taking a step back and appreciating the journey. It helped me understand that everyone moves forward at their own pace. The sessions not only gave me the opportunity to connect with others in my class, but also provided the tools to balance academics and athletics.”

Wesleyan’s ongoing partnership with RADical Hope reflects a shared commitment to equipping student-athletes with the life skills, connections and resilience needed to thrive on and off the field.

“We are honored to continue our work with Wesleyan for a fifth year,” said MacKenzie Kelly, Director of Programs of RADical Hope. “The voices of student-athletes affirm what we believe – that with the right support, young people have the strength and capacity to thrive through life’s transitions. We are grateful to Wesleyan for their commitment to this continued partnership.”
